Police: Teens Used Stolen Gun in Highland Park Break-in

in both the Highland Park and Deerfield cases.

According to Wilk, Norris and Mahoney went to a home in the 800 block of North Avenue in Deerfield where they knew the residents, claiming they had left keys there and asked if they could look for them.

“They used a ruse to get into the house,” Wilk said. “They know the family. The gun was taken from the home without the knowledge of the owner.”

At 11:50 a.m. on Aug. 2, Deerfield Police received a call from Highland Park Police Detective Scott Fishman asking for assistance locating Norris. He also asked for help in learning if a gun was missing from a home in the 800 block of North Avenue in Deerfield.

When Deerfield Police were able to talk to the home owner, they were told there was a shotgun in the home and where it could be found. The gun was not there, according to Wilk.

Deputy Highland Park Police Chief Dave Schwarz later confirmed the gun found in Highland Park and allegedly used in the Parkside home invasion was the one taken from the North Avenue residence in Deerfield, Wilk said.

Mahoney and Norris are scheduled to appear in Lake County Court on all charges at 9 a.m. Sept. 10.

In a related matter, the attorney for Jacob Lynn, 17, , hopes his client’s case can be resolved.

Sheldon Sorosky today asked Judge Raymond Collins to continue Lynn’s case to Oct. 1 in Lake County Criminal Court in Waukegan. “Maybe we’ll be able to resolve it, judge,” Sorosky said. This was Lynn’s first court appearance on the charges. He next appears at 9 a.m. Oct. 1.
