Information provided by the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Department.
The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Department greeted its three newest firefighter/paramedics to their first day on the job Monday.
Christopher Jonson, John Burmeister, and John Santner were welcomed by Chief Ian Kazian and members of the department. They were sworn in by Fire Commissioners Jerrold Hoppe and Susie Julison.
The new firefighters were also accompanied by their families who took part in a traditional badge pinning ceremony and helmet presentation led by Chief Ian Kazian and Lt. Mark McManaman.
All three firefighters come from other area departments. Johnson is a volunteer member of the Knollwood Fire Department and now works alongside his father, Chris Johnson Sr., who serves as Fire Marshal and the most senior member at Deerfield.
Burmeister is homegrown from Deerfield and came to us from the Countryside Fire Department. Santner, a former Grayslake firefighter, has already been asked about a soft serve ice cream machine from his new fire service brothers, as he is the owner of Tastee Freez in Grayslake.
