On Sept. 20, a Deerfield woman told police she watched a man approach her home on Montgomery Drive and attach something to her door.
The resident opened the orange envelope once the man had left. Inside, she found a flier urging her to call 800-446-8937 for important information from JP Morgan Chase Bank, according to the police report.
When the homeowner called the number, it prompted her to provide her bank account number before she could proceed. Once the numbers were entered, it asked for her Social Security number, which is when the woman said she became suspicious and contacted police.
Officers contacted Chase about the incident. Police said bank management were not familiar with the number or the flier that officers provided.
