Judge Allows Confession of Deerfield Murder Suspect

Jurors can view videotape of Deerfield's Daniel Baker allegedly acting out murder of Marina Aksman of Vernon Hills.

A videotaped confession where acts out the alleged murder of Vernon Hills woman Marina Aksman can be played to the jury during his trial, according to a report in the Lake County News Sun.

Lake County Circuit Court Judge Fred Foreman denied a motion by Baker’s lawyers to keep the video out of court. The attorneys claimed Baker was “not of sound mind,” according to the article.

“The court has no means of gauging these self-serving claims of his mental faculties,” Foreman said in his ruling as reported by the News Sun. Foreman has ruled Baker is fit to stand trial. Baker, who is accused of the April 1, 2010, bludgeoning of Aksman, remains in Lake County Jail awaiting trial.
