Authorities in Las Vegas say Edward C. Brandt of Lake Forest shot a 30-year-old concierge desk worker at a casino hotel before killing himself Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Jessica Corinne Kenny of Las Vegas was shot at the Excalibur resort, where she worked as the concierge desk worker for the travel website Vegas.com, ABC 7 News in Chicago reported on Monday.
Kenny was a 2000 graduate of Grayslake High School, according to the Daily Herald.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this most difficult time," Denise Kindle, assistant superintendent for personnel services at Grayslake High School District 127, told the Daily Herald.
Las Vegas police Lt. Ray Steiber said that the two had dated for less than six months and then moved together to Las Vegas, as reported by ABC Chicago. They broke up 2 1/2 years ago.
Steiber told the Associated Press that Brandt checked into the Excalibur hotel and casino on Dec. 12, and waite for two days before approaching Kenny while she was at work. Authorities say that he acted alone.
Brandt, 31, then shot himself in the head. Police said the two may have dated once, but a motive in the shooting was unclear, according to the Tribune article.
"We were saddened to learn that a member of the VEGAS.com family was the victim of Friday night's tragic and senseless killing at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino Las Vegas," VEGAS.com Chief Operating Officer Bryan Allison said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."
