A window washer fell into a 15-foot hole when a steel grate he was standing on gave way Tuesday morning on Lake Cook Road, according to ChicagoAreaFire.com. The hole was not 50-feet deep, as originally reported by Current Incident Notification Services.

The incident occurred at 1751 W. Lake Cook Road in Deerfield, the website reports. The man fell when an angle iron that was supporting the grate gave way.

The Deerfield Review reports that the man, in his 40s, stepped on the grate and it gave way.

Deerfield police posted an update about the man on the department's Facebook page:

"The window washer that fell from a building on Lake Cook Road earlier today was transported to the hospital with a leg injury. He is currently conscious and in stable condition."
