Man Uses Brother’s Identity, Gets Arrested

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Gyle Del Rio, 31, of Chicago was arrested August 20 for obstruction of justice (a Class 4 Felony), driving without a valid license and improper lane usage but not until Deerfield Police learned the man they stopped weeks before was actually Del Rio and not his brother, according to Deerfield Police reports

The case began when Del Rio’s brother learned he had to appear in Lake County Court August 6 because he received a ticket for improper lane usage in Deerfield when he was actually outside Illinois, something he could prove to the police.

After piecing several facts together, the brother began to suspect Del Rio was the one arrested using an improper identity. Police learned Del Rio had four previous traffic violations, a drug arrest and more.

A review of a video of original traffic stop revealed to police the brother was not the person stopped but actually Del Rio. Police also learned Del Rio gave his brother’s name. After learning where Del Rio worked, police arrested him there August 20.

Del Rio’s court date is pending. If convicted, he could serve from one to three years in prison.
