UPDATE: Marni Yang Sentenced to Life in Prison

Judge orders two life sentences for killing of Rhoni Reuter and her unborn child.

Marni Yang received two life sentences Friday for killing Rhoni Reuter and her unborn child nearly five years ago.

In delivering his decision, Judge Christopher Stride refered to Yang's, "methodical, meticulous and maniacal manner in which you committed this crime."

Nearly five years after shooting and killing a pregnant woman in her Deerfield condo, Marni Yang will be sentenced for the death of Rhoni Reuter and her unborn child.

Yang is scheduled to appear before Judge Christopher Stride at 9 a.m. on Friday at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.

In March, a jury found her of first-degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child.

Authorities say she gunned Reuter down in her Deerfield apartment back in 2007. Reuter was six-months pregnant with the child of former Bears player Shaun Gayle. During the trial, Gayle admitted to jurors that he was also having a sexual relationship with Yang at the time of the shooting. 

Yang’s sentencing was initially scheduled for April 29 but was continued until May 20.

According to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office the defense had filed several post-trial motions and they needed time to submit written responses to them.

The sentencing of convicted murderer, , has been continued to May 20.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Patricia Fix told Patch, “The defense had filed a lot more post-trial motions and we needed time to file some written responses for it,” she said. “So it was their motion but we had no objection.”

Yang was scheduled to be sentenced for the first-degree murder of Rhoni Reuter and the intentional homicide of her unborn child on April 29. In March, a jury found Yang guilty of shooting and killing Reuter in her Deerfield condo back in 2007.

Reuter was six-months pregnant with the child of former Bears player . At the time of the shooting, Yang was also romantically involved with the Super Bowl winner.

Fix said she hopes to conclude the case on May 20.

The sentencing is set to take place at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.

The sentencing hearing scheduled for Marni Yang on Friday has been cancelled according to the Daily Herald.

Yang faces a minimum sentence of life in prison after a jury convicted her in March of gunning down a pregnant woman in her Deerfield condo back in 2007. Yang was charged with the first-degree murder of Rhoni Reuter and intentional homicide of her unborn child.

At the time of the shooting, Reuter was six-months pregnant with the child of former Bears player Shaun Gayle who Yang was also intimate with.    

Daily Herald's website states attorneys are figuring out a new sentencing date that could be sometime in May or June.
