Officer Hears Crash, Makes Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI 

Zachary Butler, 37, of Palatine was arrested June 28 for driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to prevent an accident, according to Deerfield Police reports

An officer was driving on Deerlake Road near Lake Cook Road when he heard a crash which turned out to be one car hitting the other from the rear, according to the report. Police discovered Butler hit the first car while it was stopped at a traffic signal. He told police he could not give a version of the facts.

While talking to Butler, police smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He refused to take field sobriety tests, according to the report. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 9 a.m. July 17 in Waukegan. 

Possession of Cannabis

Robert Garbrecht, 27, of Mundelein was arrested June 30 for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Deerfield Police reports

Police were walking through the halls of the Red Roof Inn when the odor of cannabis was smelled coming from a room. On further investigation, police learned Garbrecht had the marijuana. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 1:30 p.m. August 6 in Park City. 

Burglary of a Motor Vehicle 

An I-pad was reported stolen July 1from a vehicle in a parking lot near the intersection of Lake Cook and Waukegan Roads, according to Deerfield Police reports. The vehicle was locked. Police talked to several merchants but none had cameras with a view of the parking lot.
