Police Arrest Fugitive Waiting for Coffee

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Capture of Fugitive 

Robert Newberry, 42, of Burlington, WI, was arrested April 4 on an outstanding fugitive warrant for resisting arrest in Lake County, according to Deerfield Police reports. 

Police responded to a call about a suspicious person standing in front of a store in the vicinity of the 100 block of South Waukegan Road at 4:54 a.m. and found Newberry where the caller described him with a bicycle, according to the report.

Newberry told police he was riding his bicycle from Wisconsin to the east coast and was waiting to get a cup of coffee when the shop opened, according to the report. After checking, police learned Newberry was wanted for resisting arrest in Lake County. He was unable to post the cash portion of a $5,000 bond and was transported to the Lake County Jail..

Angelo Defilippis, 41, of Bannockburn, was arrested April 3 for driving while license suspended and using a cell phone in a school zone, according to Deerfield Police reports

Police observed Defilippis driving while holding a cell phone in his right hand on Wilmot Road, according to the report. He explained he was checking his email. Upon further investigation, police learned his license was suspended. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. May 7 in Park City. 

Alonzo Perez, 35, of Highland Park, was arrested April 5 for driving without a valid license, driving without insurance, driving without required safety chains on the vehicle and driving with an expired registration, according to Deerfield Police reports. 

Police spotted Perez driving with an expired registration and no safety chains in the vicinity of Lake Cook Road and Pine Street. Upon investigation, police learned he did not have a license or insurance. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. May 7 in Park City.
