Police Blotter: Drunk Driving, Retail Theft, & More

The following incidents were reported by the Deerfield Police Department.

Drunk Driving:

Samuel Solarz, 23, of Highland Park was charged with a DUI on May 22. Police say they spotted Solarz turning onto Waukegan Road without using a signal. After failing a field sobriety test and blowing a .223, Solarz was arrested and charged. His court date is scheduled for June 15. 

Theft:

Police were called to the 1100 block of Broadmoor Place in response to a theft report. The homeowner told police he had left a cast iron sink and stainless steel cook top on a dolly in front of his house for a friend to pick up. The Deerfield resident said he then left and came back to find the items missing. According to the homeowner, his friend had not picked the materials up. The items were valued at $400.

On May 25 police conducted a random vehicle check in the parking lot of Jewel. Officers say the registered driver, 52-year-old Cheryl Wyller had an expired license. Authorities pulled the Des Plaines woman over after watching her exit Jewel and get into the car. During questioning, police discovered that she didn't have a receipt for several items from the grocery story valued at $43.23. Wyller was arrested and charged with retail theft as well as driving with an expired license. Her court date is scheduled for July 7.
