Police Blotter: Drunk Driving & Theft

The following incidents were reported by the Deerfield Police Department from Jan. 28 - 31.

High School Theft:

On Jan. 31 a student told police someone broke into his locker and stole the contents inside. The 16-year-old reported an iPhone, USB drive and cash missing. The contents were valued at around $300. Officers notified school officials about the situation.

Retail Theft:

Officers were called to on Jan. 29 in connection to a retail theft. Employees told authorities three males had escaped with a large number of North Face jackets valued at $3,000. They were not followed due to store policy. After sending surveillance video of the incident to other Sports Authority stores, police say two of the suspects were apprehended by authorities in Broadview. Upon questioning the suspects made reference to the Deerfield incident.

On Jan. 28 officers pulled over a Mercedes Benz that was driving with only one functioning light. Officers say they smelled marijuana inside 22-year-old George Zamarron’s car. Authorities discovered two plastic bags containing a green leafy substance and a glass pipe. Zamarron was charged with possession of cannabis. His court date is set for March 3. 

On Jan. 29 police spotted a red Kia complete an improper turn from Wilmot Road onto Lake Cook Road. When officers pulled 32-year-old Olena Kamke over they told her she was driving with an expired registration but quickly smelled alcohol on her breath. After failing a sobriety test, the Deerfield resident was charged with a DUI among other things.

Also on Jan. 29, officers pulled over a black Lexus near Waukegan and Kates Roads after watching the car drift onto the curb several times. Police say 35-year-old Michael Rosen had bloodshot eyes and also smelled like alcohol. After failing a sobriety test, the Deerfield resident was charged with a DUI. After searching Rosen’s car, authorities also confiscated a plastic bag with a green plant material inside, that appeared to be marijuana. A lighter and pipe were also discovered. His court date has been set for Feb. 23.
