Battery, Theft for Services
Nicholas Hergott, 34, of Riverwoods was arrested Jan. 6 for battery and theft of services after complaining about cab fare and hitting the driver, according to Deerfield Police Reports.
Hergott hailed the taxi cab at the corner of Southport and Altgeld Avenues in Chicago to take him home to Riverwoods, according to the report. After telling the driver to take him to Deerfield, he fell asleep.
After reaching the intersection of Deerfield and Waukegan Roads, the driver woke Hergott to get further directions, according to the report. As the cab passed Greenwood Avenue on Waukegan Road, the driver again woke Hergott, who asked to exit the cab there.
When the driver asked for the fare of $76.45, Hergott said, “So it’s going to be like that,” and began to hit the driver about the face while still in the cab, according to what the driver said in the report. Hergott hit the driver on both sides of the head and tried to gouge his eyes. The report said the driver’s wounds were consistent with his description of the account.
The driver was able to unlock his seatbelt and pull Hergott from the cab. He then drove away, called police and Hergott followed on foot, according to the report. When police investigated, they observed Hergott “smelled strongly of alcohol and slurred his words.”
Hergott was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 28 in Waukegan.
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
David Lazar, 23, of Northbrook was arrested Jan. 6 for possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding, according to Deerfield Police reports.
After stopping Lazar for driving 52 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone in the vicinity of Lake Cook and Deerlake Roads, police smelled a “moderate odor” of cannabis, according to the report. After police asked a third time, Lazar admitted he had a pipe in the car. Police found a glass pipe in the car. Lazar was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. Feb. 19 in Park City.
