Police Blotter: Man Drives Around Police Markers, Charged With DUI

Richard Lauer, 46, of Highland Park was arrested May 12 for DUI after driving around and into efforts by the police and fire departments to investigate an accident scene, according to . 

While three police officers, two fire fighters and three tow truck drivers were clearing an accident area blocking three of four lanes on Waukegan Road near Oakmont, Lauer drove around two marked police cars with lights flashing into the area where they were working, according to the report. 

Another officer was called to the scene to assist. That officer noticed Lauer had a “strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes,” according to the report. Lauer failed a field sobriety test. After being taken to the Deerfield Police Station, Lauer recorded a .162 blood alcohol level. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Criminal Court at 9 a.m. June 27 in Waukegan.
