Police Blotter: Man Shuts Door on Police to Avoid DUI

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI 

Daniel Bittner, 32, of Deerfield was arrested June 23 for Driving Under the Influence after trying to shut his garage door in the face of a police officer, according to . 

Police first noticed Bittner’s erratic driving while an officer was parked in the Wilmot School parking lot and began to follow Bittner as he drove into his own garage at 711 Timberhill Road, according to the report.

Bittner attempted to close the door as the officer approached the garage but the officer used his foot to activate the sensor for force the door up again, according to the report. The police smelled the “extreme odor of alcohol” emanating from Bittner. 

Bittner, who refused to take a breath test, according to the report, was released on $100 bond and will appear in Lake County Criminal Court at 9 a.m. on July 25 in Waukegan.

Possession of Cannabis 

Joshua Tholen, 20, of Antioch and Nicole Lidstrom, 18, of Trevor, WI, were arrested June 18 for possession of cannabis, according to Deerfield Police reports. 

After police spotted Tholen driving a vehicle southbound on Waukegan Road with a headlight out, the officer followed the car into a parking lot at 260 South Waukegan Road, according to the report. As the automobile was turning into the lot, the officer saw a plastic baggy thrown from the driver’s side. 

When another officer arrived, that officer identified the contents of the bag as cannabis, according to the report. Tholen and Lidstrom were released on bond and will appear in Lake County Criminal Court at 3 p.m. August 7 in Park City. 

Shoplifting 

Nancy Perez-Sanchez, 26, of Wheeling was arrested June 20 for shoplifting, according to Deerfield Police reports. 

According to the report, a member of the T.J. Maxx security team was monitoring an in-store video camera and saw Perez-Sanchez place 13 articles of clothing valued at $158.29 in a bag and leave the store without paying. 

The store security officer confronted Perez-Sanchez leaving the mall, escorted her to the store security office and called police, according to the report. She was released on $150 bond and will appear in Cook County Criminal Court at 10:30 a.m. July 9 in Skokie.
