Police Blotter: McDonald's Employee Assaulted

The following incidents were reported by the Deerfield Police Department.

Battery:

Nicholas Thomas, 51, of Northbrook, was arrested on Aug. 27 by police near the  along Waukegan Road. An employee told officers she was mopping the floors around 9 p.m. when Thomas slapped her on the butt and then fled on a bicycle. Thomas, who police say is known to sleep under the tollway, was charged with battery. His court date is Sept. 26.

Theft:

Police responded to the parking lot of in response to a car burglary on Aug. 28. The driver told officers he had parked his 2004 GMC box truck in the lot for the night. When he returned, one of the doors had been pried open and a GPS device valued at $250 was stolen.

Elena Vakhnenko, 65, of Mundelein, was arrested at the  store on Aug. 28 and charged with retail theft. Store security reported watching Vakhnenko slip two fish packages into her purse and leave the store without paying the $42.01 for the items.

On Aug. 29, a 34-year-old Deerfield woman told police she apparently dropped her purse on the ground while she loaded groceries into her car at the  store. She then drove away without noticing the phone inside her purse was missing. When she returned, it was gone. Her husband was able to track the phone by using a GPS device to an apartment complex in Prospect Heights. That’s when police were notified about the situation.

Underage Drinker Charged:

Police responded to on Aug. 27 in regards to a noise complaint. Hotel staff told officers they wanted an occupant to leave after receiving six complaints from other guests. Police reported finding Vincent Chiodo, 20, of Normal, and his brother extremely intoxicated inside the room.

Chiodo was arrested for underage drinking and resisting arrest after he struggled with officers when they tried to handcuff him. His court date is Oct. 6.
