Police Department Recognized as Top Force

Award shows commitment to professionalism.

was recently recognized as one of the best operating law enforcement agencies in the country by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), according to Commander Rick Weil.

“It is the Deerfield Police Department's commitment to bring the most professional policing,” Weil said. Receiving this accreditation can take as long as three years of rigorous scrutiny by CALEA.

The department received its reaccreditation last month. In April, a team of assessors from CALEA arrived in Deerfield to give a complete examination of the department and its practices. Community input was part of the process as well.

According to Deerfield Police Chief John Sliozis the recognition was a collaborative effort of the entire department.

“I am very pleased to congratulate every member of the Deerfield Police Department for making this award possible. Without their dedication and hard work in the pursuit of public safety professionalism and excellence, this recognition would not be possible.” Sliozis said.
