Suspicious behavior in Northbrook Court parking lot alerts police.

Two Highwood men were arrested Feb. 14 for burglary and theft from Deerfield’s Chipotle Restaurant after suspicious behavior in the Northbrook Court parking lot tipped off Northbrook Police, according to a news release from the Deerfield Police Department.

Eguardo Maisonet, 27, an employee of the eatery, and Roberto Conales, 20, a former worker there, were spotted in a car in the Northbrook Court parking lot after hours, according to the release.

When the suspects saw a Northbrook Police car, they started to leave, according to Deputy Deerfield Police Chief Tom Keane. “They drove off recklessly,” he said. “There were violations on the car,” he added explaining why the Northbrook officers made the stop.

Proceeds from the burglary were found in the vehicle, according to the release. Deerfield officers verified the burglary with Chipotle.

Conales and Maisonet entered the restaurant after hours and took bank deposits from a safe in the manager’s office. “One of them knew the combination to the safe,” Keane said. “It was an inside job.”

The burglary charge is a Class 2 felony carrying a three to seven-year prison sentence. Theft is a Class 3 felony and is punishable by two to five years in jail.

Police transported Maisonet and Conales to the Lake County Jail, according to the release. They were released after posting the $5,000 cash portion of a $50,000 bond.
