Slow Driving Leads to DUI Arrest and More

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI 

Byron Smith, 53, of Lake Forest was arrested March 22 for driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage, according to Deerfield Police reports. 

After receiving a call about an intoxicated driver, police located Smith driving northbound on Waukegan Road south of Deerfield High School, according to the report. Police observed Smith driving below the posted 35-mile-per-hour speed limited and weaving within his lane.

Once Police stopped Smith, a strong odor of alcohol was noticed. He refused field sobriety tests and a breath test telling police to “just arrest” him, according to the report. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 9 a.m. April 10 in Waukegan. 

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving with Suspended License

Joel Silverman, 48, of Highland Park was arrested March 26 for possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and driving an uninsured motor vehicle, according to Deerfield Police reports

Police did a random check of Silverman’s car when he was driving eastbound on Deerfield Road near Rosemary Terrace, according to the report. After discovering Silverman’s license was suspended, a search revealed he had a glass pipe “purportedly used to inhale cannabis.” He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 1:30 p.m. May 21 in Park City.
