Sneaky: Helpful Shopper Targeted in Theft

Police report woman catches man attempting to steal wallet after another customer asks for aid.

On Aug. 5, police responded to the  store in reference to a wallet theft attempt.

The woman told police that she was shopping when another customer asked her to read a label because she didn't have her glasses. That was when she saw a man reach into her purse in the shopping cart and take out the wallet.

When she confronted the man, the shopper told police he dropped the wallet, denied taking it and quickly left the store. The other woman, denied being involved but left the store shortly afterward as well.

Nothing was reported missing from the wallet.

In another police incident, Amy Robinson, 18, of Deerfield was arrested on Aug. 8 and charged with public nuisance assemblage.

Police originally responded to the 1300 block of Greenwood Avenue in response to a noise complaint. When officers arrived, they reportedly found an intoxicated male walking back and forth in the home's driveway. 

Police made contact with Robinson, a resident of the home, snapped photos of several open alcohol containers inside the residence and arrested Robinson. She was taken to the Deerfield Police Department for booking and her mother was contacted about the incident.

Her court date is scheduled for Sept. 1.
