Solicitors Hit Deerfield, Police Make Arrests

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Soliciting Without a Permit 

Two men were arrested for soliciting without a permit July 15 in two separate locations, in one case with two previous warnings before an arrest was made. 

Michael Deshaun Carruthers, 32, of Memphis, was arrested July 15 for soliciting magazine sales without a permit on Heather Avenue, according to Deerfield Police reports. After receiving a complaint and confronting Carruthers, police learned he was warned twice before that day. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. August 6 in Park City.

Theron Mcwilliams, 51, of Cleveland, was arrested July 15 for soliciting without a permit, according to Deerfield Police reports. Police confronted Mcwilliams on in the vicinity of Castlewood and Constance after receiving a complaint. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. August 6 in Park City. 

Public Nuisance Assemblage

Matthew Williams, 18, of Palatine and Brooks McCormick, 18, of Harwood Heights were arrested July 13 for public nuisance assemblage, according to Deerfield Police reports

Police were patrolling the Red Roof Inn when a group of 10 “young looking” persons were found in two rooms with open containers of alcohol. They were all given breath tests. Only Williams and McCormick were charged. They were released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. August 20 in Park City. 

Drivers License Infractions and More

William Ruiz, 37, of Waukegan was arrested July 17 for driving while using a hand held cell phone, driving without a valid driver’s license and driving an uninsured motor vehicle, according to Deerfield Police reports. After stopping Ruiz for talking on a hand held cellular device in a construction zone in the vicinity of Lake Cook and Deer Lake Roads, police learned he did not have a license. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. August 6 in Park City.
