Wisconsin Fugitive Charged With Felony in Deerfield

A man wanted in Wisconsin for armed robbery and apprehended Sept. 14 by Deerfield Police in a high speed chase was charged that day with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 Felony, and six traffic offenses, according to Deerfield Police Sgt. Bill Annen.

Marshall Wolbers, 57, of Genoa City, WI, was initially chased by Highland Park Police Sept. 14 after exiting Highway 41 and heading west on Deerfield Road. He was finally stopped by Deerfield police.

Wolbers could face three to seven years in prison for driving the stolen vehicle. He was also charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, expired registration, failure to use a turn signal and driving through a traffic control device, according to Annen.

Wolbers was wanted on a warrant in Outagamie County, WI, near Appleton, for armed robbery, false imprisonment, theft and victim intimidation. Police also discovered an outstanding warrant against Wolbers for failure to appear in court in Winnebago County.

Deerfield Police transported Wolbers to Lake County Jail, according to Annen. Wolbers appeared before Lake County Criminal Court Judge Christopher Morozin Saturday. Morozin set a $50,000 bond on the felony charge.

Should Wolbers be able to post the bond, he will remain in Lake County Jail because of the Illinois and Wisconsin warrants, according to Annen. He will also remain in Illinois until all outstanding criminal matters here are resolved. He next appears in Lake County Court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Waukegan.

In Wisconsin, Wolbers was accused of holding an employee of the Fox Counties Convention and Visitors Bureau in Appleton at gun point, stealing her credit cars and fleeing in her van July 22, according to an article in the Appleton Post-Crescent. 

Police in Wisconsin claim Wolbers entered the convention center shortly after it opened, walked down a hall and came back after donning a black mask and plastic gloves. He tied the victim’s arms behind her back and duct-taped her mouth and ankles, according to the Post Crescent.
