Art, Sports Recognized by Village Board

Poster winner and state hockey champions honored at Monday meeting.

A blend of art and sports began the Deerfield Village Board of Trustees meeting Monday.

The Board recognized senior Andrea Valkanas for her winning design of the poster symbolizing the Deerfield Farmer’s Market. .

“I wanted to show the vibrancy of the Farmer’s Market,” Valkanas said of her design featuring 10 upright peppers. The Farmers Market will be held from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Saturday from June 16 through Oct. 13.

Valkanas’s poster will be displayed at the Farmer’s Market and will be in the windows of local merchants promoting the event through the summer.

In a separate ceremony Monday, Mayor Harriet Rosenthal presented a sign to be displayed at the Village limits announcing the hockey title as she and the Trustees praised the athletes. This was the Warriors second consecutive crown.
