Debates for Congress, Local Offices Set Oct. 14

Schneider and Dold will square off in only live forum within 10th District Boundaries. Candidates for General Assembly and Lake County Board will meet in separate contests.

The only debate within the boundaries of the 10th Congressional District between , takes place at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Lake Forest High School east campus auditorium.

The forum, co sponsored by the in coordination with Patch and the Union League Club of Chicago will also feature candidates for the Illinois General Assembly and the Lake County Board.

In three separate debates, one for each level of government, candidates will make opening and closing statements as well as answer questions from the audience. League members will collect the questions on index cards which will be asked by a moderator appointed by the LWV.

“It is very important that voters have the opportunity to hear questions answered directly from the candidates,” Jane Partridge, co-president of the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff group, said. “We provide these debates as a public service for the community. We do not pursue our own agenda for these debates.”

With television commercials touting Schneider and Dold containing messages crafted by the campaigns and outside groups already on the local airwaves, Partridge thinks giving voters an opportunity for an unfiltered forum is important.

“We are seeing outside money pay for untrue ads in our area,” Partridge said. “Voters need to learn the truth so they can make informed decisions.”

Intense campaigning is not limited to the race for the United States House of Representatives. The two people running to replace retiring state Sen. Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest)—Highland Park pediatrician Arie Friedman and West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison—were trading accusations Monday.

Schneider and Dold will start the afternoon at 1:30 p.m. While they have three other joint appearances, all are on Chicago television stations.

Candidates for the Illinois General Assembly will debate at 2:30 p.m. Morrison and Friedman will be joined on the stage by the two men hoping to succeed state Rep. Karen May (D-Highland Park), who is also retiring. They are Republican Mark Shaw of Lake Forest and Democrat Scott Drury of Highwood.

At 3:30 p.m., Lake County Board candidates Steve Mandel of Highland Park, Laura Lambrecht of Highland Park, Dave Barkhausen of Lake Bluff, Sandra Hart of Lake Bluff, Ann Maine of Lincolnshire and Arlene Hickory of Lake Bluff face off.

On WHICH Lake Forest High School campus will the debate be held? Address?

Thanks for your comment. It will be on the east campus.

Hopefully the debate will bring out facts showing Dold is NOT bipartisan and independent. This Republican Yes man has voted more than 80% with his team. His recent political ad against Schneider re: taxes is also false. Dold trumpets his "recognizing health care workers globally" (is this a reach on his foreign policy experience) and sponsoring "job fairs." I'm looking for a representative who is going to stick his neck out and get the job done for his district, not be an administrative assistant playing follow my leader in Congress.

Inquiring minds would like to know how Schneider claims to be a small businessman, yet showed no revenue for his businesses in 2010 or 2011.

Retired, and now running for office...genius. He lives comfortably and has sent his kids off to college. Why is his income of so much interest to you? Some people don't feel the need to gild the lilly. Now Dold's income. That might be an interesting topic. A "family" business that pays him what for doing what? He was essentially a lobbyist for the pest management industry, using his connections within the Bush administration. Not a small business man at all.

Dold is a slave owner who runs Rose Pest as a plantation. . Oh...and the crook had his lawyers tell a judge he is not "aware of day to day operations of Rose Pest" so just like his old and almost-senile parents, he collects all income from Rose without doing jack except calling himself "small business owner." He is a crook, a liar, a cheap greedy maniac posing as your next-door neighboor. To you he is "small business owner," to the judge he is "not involved." Creepy person this Dold who is very likely will be indicted on something pretty soon because not all of his employees are scared-stiff about talking. Powersprays done on people's homes AFTER the Illinois made them illegal, (the public has no idea about the laws of Illinois...) overcharging customers, (again, people are mostly-stupid and pay for "fruitflies" treatment which is placing 3 cups with vinegard inside them on a table...with cups costing about $2 each :) and he charges $175 for three cups...doing business with City of Chicago (O'Hare Airport) even though as a politician he is not allowed to do that, breaking labor laws (forcingthe slaves to work 6 days per week, no overtime), charging people who are not home for inexistent "outside pest control service," declaring $0 income for tax purposes (2010 for sure, a stupid manager showed us the papers to prove "there's no money, we need to cut pay") I have never seen another crook like this Dold, so blatantly arrogant and fearless of consequences.

The only treatment for fruitflies is find the source (rotten fruit?) and throw it. You can't spray "the air," there's no bait for fruit flies and yes, they are attracted to vinegard so use some in kitchen but unless you find the source...they'll keep coming. Don't pay Dold $175 for "treatment" as there's no treatment. He is ripping people off as a business ownr and as a Congressman (the other day he talked about healthcare in Congo or some other forsaken place, while getting paid with your taxes to help 10th District not Congo!) http://payments.chicagocurrent.com/vendors/rose-pest-solutions

This is crook county right?

The words "force" and "slavery" have meanings. You cannot redefine them to include voluntary interactions.

"Why is his income of so much interest to you?" It's not. My question was accurately stated above and is unrelated to your question.

Thank you, "dold's supporter," for making such a persuasive case for Brad Schneider. You are not quite at the point yet of accusing Dold of spraying his employees and customers with pesticide, but you'll get there soon enough. In all of your hyperbole about slaves, you neglected to mention the shackles and neck rings worn by Rose Pest employees. As offensive as your false analogy and deprecation of slavery must be to African-Americans whose ancestors suffered from real slavery, you have not plumbed the full depths yet. But keep up the good work.

Mark Shaw withstood Drury's lambasting over abortion issues. Scot Drury claimed that Mark refused to submit his position on the issue and added an extremist anti-gun attack on the Shaw Campaign. The question was answered and the answers can be found. Call Mr. Shaw or Mr. Drury to get the answers. I know for a fact Mr. Mark L. Shaw will return your call. He returned mine. electmarkshaw.com facebook.com/electmarkshaw
