Deerfield Day Care Providers See No Need for Another Facility

Bright Horizons gets preliminary approval, but still needs special use permit to open.

Bright Horizons Childcare Center has received prelimiary approval for a new facility at 1650 Lake Cook Road in Deerfield, but neighboring providers are arguing the market is full, reported the Chicago Tribune.

This week, petitioners for the proposed day care facility told the Deerfield Village Board their operation would mostly serve employees from the nearby Walgreen's headquarters.

Bright Horizons will need to be granted a special use permit to serve Walgreen's and the general public because the proposed location is zoned for office, research and restricted industry, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Other Deerfield childcare providers argued there is no shortage of service.

"It is detrimental to the choice that is already existing in our town," said Lisa Kambich, director of The Deerfield Montessori Schools, at the Feb. 4 board meeting, according to the Chicago Tribune.
