Deerfield Imposes Sprinkling Restrictions

Lawn watering restricted to every other day.

Deerfield residents must limit their lawn watering to every other day through Sept. 15 because of an agreement with the Village’s supplier, Highland Park, according to .

People with even numbered addresses can water their lawn on even numbered days between 6 p.m. and midnight or from midnight until noon. There is no sprinkling allowed between noon and 6 p.m. Residents with odd addresses can do the same on the odd numbered days of the month.

“This does not apply to hand watering,” Street said referring to people who hold hoses to sprinkle their gardens. “My recommendation is to do it between 8 p.m. and midnight because there will be less evaporation from the sun.”

Deerfield, like some other communities with no access to Lake Michigan, buys it water from Highland Park. There is an agreement about restricting lawn watering. “It’s done so we don’t put too much of a burden on the water supply system,” Street said.
