Deerfield Makes Money on Electronics Recycled

New recycling contract means more funds for village.

If you haven’t been recycling your old electronics, Deerfield officials are urging you to start doing so.

Village trustees recently signed off on a two-year intergovernmental agreement that means Deerfield will be paid back per pound it recycles.  

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, SWALCO, negotiated the terms with its current electronic recycling provider.

Jennifer Maltas, assistant to village manager estimated the change to bring in around $10,000 each year.

Deerfield hosts electronic recycling events at the Public Works Facility. That’s when residents can drop off things like old TV’s, computers, and cell phones.

Here are the dates for the collection pick ups this year: April 16, May 21, June 18, Sept. 10, and  Oct. 15.
