Deerfield's February Artist of the Month Named

R. Gian-Po's works will be on display at the Patty Turner Center for the month of February.

The following press release is from the Deerfield Park District:

R. Gian-Po (Renee Poblacion) is the Artist of the Month for February, 2014, with her works displayed on the Patty Turner Center Art Wall. R. Gian-Po was born in Chicago and has been painting form about 20 years. She has studied at the Evanston Art Center and the Rothblatt & Amrany Studio. Her work has been in galleries in California and Illinois. R. Gian-Po has also sold her artwork at art fairs throughout the Chicago-land area, winning multiple awards.

R. Gian-Po said, “Most of my paintings are of landscapes done in the medium of chalk pastels. My inspiration comes from my love of color and nature. I have felt, at times, that I have the heart of an eagle, gut the wings of a sparrow. When I paint, the wings seem to transform into those of an eagle. In my soul, I soar to a place where the world appears peaceful. When someone derives any pleasure from my painting, I feel as though I have communicated with someone on a soulful level. Loneliness is abated, a connection is made with the whole, with the One.”

The January, 2014 Artist of the Month was Photographer, PTC member, newly-arrived Deerfield resident and ex-professor, Dr. Alan Rubin.
