Friedman, Morrison Open Offices, Trade Barbs

Candidates for state Senate talk about choice and experience.

The two candidates hoping to succeed , opened their campaign offices a mile apart Saturday and wasted no time differentiating themselves from each other.

, the Democratic contender, criticized the lack of government experience of , the Republican choice. She claimed he has never been responsible to citizens and taxpayers.

“I am the only candidate in the race who has held elective office,” Morrison said to more than 50 people at the formal office opening. “I know what it’s like to be accountable to taxpayers and my opponent does not. I know how to balance a budget.” She has held her post 14 years.

Friedman admits he has not held elective office but speaks about his time as a public servant in the U.S. Navy. He also thinks his business experience running a medical practice has taught him budgeting.

"While it's true that I haven't held elected office, I'm a retired naval aviator who deployed to the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm,” Friedman said. “I'm a small business owner who's had no choice but to actually balance his budget each and every year.”

. “I am the only 100 percent prochoice candidate,” she said.

“My understanding is he believes in parental consent,” she told Patch after her speech.

When asked before his office-opening event, Friedman indicated he supports a women’s right to choose. “I am completely prochoice,” he said.

“This is a medical issue and there is no place for the legislature to be in there,” he added referring to the parental consent question.

One of the few things Morrison and Friedman agree on is the proximity of their campaign offices to the residents of the 29th State Senate District. Friedman’s headquarters is in Highland Park’s Crossroads Shopping Center near Lake Cook and Skokie Valley roads.

"I am proud that we are located in a centralized area of the district and will be able to help support the small businesses that occupy the Crossroads Shopping Center," Friedman said to the 80 people who attended the opening event.

, at Lake Cook and Waukegan roads, Morrison had similar thoughts. “The district is half in Lake County and half in Cook County, and we want to be equally accessible to both constituencies,” she said.

This is too easy: I am voting for Dr. Arie Friedman, based on his real knowledge of the private economy, and his understanding of other vital issues challenging America today - defense and health care (one-sixth of the U.S. economy). If Julie Morrison's only experience is Township Supervisor, that is inadequate. Our Wheeling Township Supervisor (Cook County) is a full-time dentist. His government job is a sideline.

The whole concept of a 'Political Career' is laughable at best. It's a CIVIC DUTY that one is supposed to do for a term, and then return to their life. When you have people making a 'career' out of it - then you have issues such as those wrought by Madigan and his ilk that decimate a State. ...By The People, For The People, Of The People.... anyone remember this from History class? Anyone? Maybe Ms. Morrison should go back to school... Arie's got my vote...
Dan Pritzker June 20, 2012 at 07:57 AM
Pioneer Press has Julie up by 12 points and WGN a few weeks ago had her up by 9 points. Arie better work on defending himself in that lawsuit. 2 years and still no settlement. You would think he would settle so close to the election.
Joanie June 20, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Cute Dan, 3 lies in 2 sentences. No polling has been done by either Pioneer Press or WGN and Doctor Friedman has never been sued - not even once - in his 20 year career. But if you want some slime, why don't you ask Julie why people outside her Township are receiving taxpayer funded mailings from West Deerfield for the first time ever...

Dr. Friedman wants to get Illinois' fiscal house in order. Does anyone believe that Julie Morrison would even try?
Dan Pritzker June 20, 2012 at 07:07 PM
Jenkins vs. Friedman. Lake County. Use your easy research skills. If you subscribe to USA Polling it has all the polling broken down. Joanie is a typical tea bagger. Deny deny deny. Wait until my families superpack exposes this anti medicare, anti social security person. God Bless!
Dan Pritzker June 20, 2012 at 07:10 PM
One last item, this district is lean Dem +6. Thank you new map:)
Joanie June 20, 2012 at 08:00 PM
Dan, there is no such race as you've described. There is no candidate named "Jenkins" or "Joanie". You might be looking at the wrong state. The map actually moved this particular district significantly to the GOP side. I hope the real Pritzkers don't get irritated with your behavior in these posts...
Dan Pritzker June 20, 2012 at 08:21 PM
Joanie, the world isn't flat and your extreme defensive demeanor of accepting the truth shows your true colors. The tea bagger in you defies reality. We will remain blue. What is the color of the sky in your world? Arie isn't capable of running a lemonade stand.
Dan Pritzker June 20, 2012 at 08:25 PM
Oh, Jenkin is the complainant in the suit. Arie Friedman misdiagnosed that poor lady and prescribed the wrong drug and she now she has problems with kidney function. Saying no is just denial.
Joanie June 20, 2012 at 09:28 PM
Dan "Pritzker" (or should I say "Julie Morrison"), you are hilarious! Doctor Friedman is a pediatrician and doesn't even treat "poor ladies"! Ha ha ha. Nice try, doofus.

I just did a Lexis Nexis search to see who is lying. There is an open case against Dr. Friedman in civil court regarding negligence and punitive damages. I only could find the WGN poll and it is correct. Also this district was gerrymandered by the Dems as they are in control. It does lean heavily towards the Dems, why would it lean Repub? Dan please post the Pioneer press poll, I saw a poll was being done but couldn't find the results. It is a PP/Chicago Sun Times poll.
Joanie June 21, 2012 at 12:02 AM
More lies - so sad!
Joanie June 21, 2012 at 12:11 AM
Here is a link to what happens when yiu search for Dr. Friedman's name on WGN: http://www.wgntv.com/search/dispatcher.front?Query=Arie+Friedman&target=adv_article As predicted, nada. Same with the LexisNexis search I just had my Dad do. Better luck next time, Julie. Maybe you should send out some more taxpayer funded West Deerfield Township mailers to voters in Moraine and Shields Townships. That might take the sting out of this truly lousy campaign week for you.
Heather Stephens June 21, 2012 at 12:49 AM
Joanie, whether you think you are right or wrong, you need some help. Medication could help.
Joanie June 21, 2012 at 12:57 AM
Hi Heather, it's funny how all you first time commenters are popping up. Looks like Illinois isn't blue anymore - it's AstroTurf green!
Ellie June 21, 2012 at 05:12 PM
The Democrats have been in COMPLETE charge of our state senate, assembly and governor's office for almost ten years. If you like Illinois to CONTINUE to be the laughing stock of the nation, vote Democrat. Illinois "leads" all the other states in fiscal collapse (unpaid bills, unfunded pensions and healthcare commitments), and corruption (number of federal prosecutions against gov.officials). Julie Morrison's first vote will be to put Democrat Senator Cullerton back in charge of the Illinois Senate! Then she will vote to rubber stamp Gov. Quinn's failed agenda. Why is Illinois' unemployment rate still above the national average?
Dan Pritzker June 22, 2012 at 12:17 AM
James Thompson,Jim Edgar,George Ryan all Republicans didn't fund the retirement plans. That's why we are in the hole. Think of all the interest that would of generated. You can disagree but it is a fact. Blago at least paid a percentage before getting arrested. So learn the facts. Thank God Illinois is so Blue. I am enjoying the gerrymandered districts.
Joanie June 22, 2012 at 02:52 AM
"Dan", do you work the night shift over at AstroTurf central downtown? I hope Axelrod is paying you overtime.
