Is Obamacare Working as It Should So Far? Vote in Our Poll

More than 7 million Americans have signed up for a health plan through Obamacare. But experts suggest the law is reshaping the employment landscape in ways that may not be good for Illinois. What do you think?

The president announced on Tuesday, April 1, that 7.1 million Americans signed up for health plans through the exchanges set up by the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare, meeting the federal government's projections.

A rush of people signed up to meet the March 31 deadline, though a grace period exists for consumers to continue to sign up. The grace period was created because of the registration problems that plagued the system last fall.

Throughout the month, various news organizations reported that registrations in Illinois were falling short of expectations. At the same time, the Illinois Policy Institute released a report that suggests fewer people are qualifying for health insurance through their jobs because employers have been cutting back hours sinct the Affordable Care Act's passage to avoid requirements.

A report on IllinoisWatchdog.org suggests that tens of thousands of Illinoisans who sign up for an Obamacare plan may not pay when the bill comes due.

What do you think? Is a mistake unfolding? Are you cautiously optimistic? Or is it too soon to tell?

Let me know who is denying women birth control, we should probably castigate them. Nobody comes to mind though.

Your phantom issues and straw men like Bush never come close to the real debate. You have no answers for corporations leaving the country in droves, ACA costs, and Obama's failures. Touting a steroid driven Dow tells me you are a trickle downer.

You obviously are not wrong on every issue, you said yourself that the unaffordable act will be replaced. You also are a trickle down guy, bragging about a high Dow. Keep it up, you are getting there.

McCloud, speaking of "Obama failures": More good news about the ACA!! Republican Predictions of Obamacare premium spikes were wrong. Imagine that!!! Republicans wrong??? Do Republican "experts" on these things ever tire of being wrong? No, Obamacare has not led to massive premium spikes. Nearly 20 states have released preliminary information about premiums for insurance policies sold on their insurance exchanges, and the nightmare scenarios have not come to pass. In most of those states, the average increase across all exchange plans is in the single digits. [...] Larry Levitt, vice president for special initiatives at the Kaiser Family Foundation, said he's surprised by the variation in proposed changes but that on average, premiums are working out to about what he expected: hikes of 7 percent to 8 percent in most places instead of the more typical double or triple that Republicans predicted. All the people claiming that premiums are skyrocketing have been proven wrong, so they ought to stop claiming that now. They won't, of course, but if they were decent human beings they would.
