Video: Kirk Campaigns With Dold

Schneider gets backing from Durbin.

Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park) made a rare public appearance Thursday when Rep. Robert Dold’s (R-Kenilworth) campaign bus stopped outside the senator’s Highland Park home for a visit. Kirk has made few public outings since stroke in January.

Dold also picked up Kirk’s endorsement. The video released by the Dold campaign shows the two lawmakers talking but does not disclose the details of their conversation.

“Rep. Dold and I have worked on strengthening the security of Israel and to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons capabilities,” Kirk said in a release from the Dold campaign. “We worked together to put tougher sanctions on Iran’s energy sector and encouraged the administration to sign the new sanctions into law.”

Meanwhile, Dold’s Democratic challenger, Brad Schneider of Deerfield, got the backing Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Springfield), the state’s senior senator, last month.

“He wants to make sure we move forward creating jobs and business opportunities in Illinois,” Durbin said. “His background as a businessman puts him in a position to do that.”

if Kirk worked for dold's Rose Pest he would have had no health insurance and fired one day after not showing up (having a stroke is not a reason good enough for a Republican to grant you not to come to work). So Kirk...you hypocrite...support Democrats and the government who let's you make money even when you are campaigning for Dold, and thus not doing your job as a Senator. By I applaud Kirk for supporting Dold: two prostitutes who sleep with both their party and anyone else when election time comes.

Mark Kirk was a strong and independent leader in Congress when he represented the 10th. I'm glad to see he endorsed a candidate who has continued to be that moderate voice and independent leader in Congress: Robert Dold

Great to see Kirk out and about, and clearly getting better. Kirk and Dold both claim to be independent and moderate in Illinois, but their actual votes and actions in Washington mostly tell a different story. They just keep pulling it off with the less-informed. They may not be extremists like Walsh, Akin, West, or Bachman, but they are hardly as independent or moderate as they claim.

dold's supporter, I doubt the allegations you post against Congressman Dold have changed anyone's mind about voting for him. Why would anyone accept allegations made by an anonymous poster?

I think "dold's supporter" needs to go to work for Cadence Consulting.

Allegations, ei? :) Kirk gets paid now because of the government job that has rules that protect workers, rules opposed by Dold. Kirk, under Dold's health care philosophy will never be able to get health insurance in the private sector...due to his stroke which is preexisting condition now. Kirk, under his Party's ideology would be fired, no insurance and most-likely on the street selling Steetwise. He is lucky to have his livehood under Democrats' rules...Kirk should support the Democrats who feed him and take care of him right now...yet, as the fake man that he is he continues to lick the Republican boot that escaped his neck right now but will cach up with him as soon as he is no longer government employee. And stop posting same message everywhere yet object to my message of Dold's not paying his serfs at Rose Pest any overtime...unless you're paid to object in which case...keep doing your job, bring focus on me not on Dold's behaviour as a business owner and Kirk's hypocrisy of endorsing the candidate of the party who wants him dead now since he is no longer able to do menial work for the master Republicans.

Sorry that Senator Kirk had a stroke. But why is it that he's not well enough to get to Capitol Hill and do the job that he was elected to, but he's well enough to be on the campaign trail to help his buddy Dold? Why is Kirk lauded so highly? It appears his priorities are completely out of whack. If you're sick, you're sick--we hope you get better. Giffords took a year before she resigned--that would be a good benchmark for Senator Kirk. Trying to hold on to the 2014 Governor election seems to be his one and only goal.

I wonder what Kirk's bill for his strike is up to now? He should go out into the real world just like the rest of us do.

What a hypocritical fraud Senator Kirk is. Are you well enough to fulfill your elected duties? If so, get your butt over to Washington and do what you've been elected and paid to do. Too sick to do your job? Then go ahead and rehab yourself. Your constituency has patience and understanding up to a point. But the ONLY time you get out of bed to do something constructive is to campaign??? Without question that is lame. I would like to know of any job in America where somebody on the mend does something OPTIONAL before doing something that is REQUIRED of his job. If indeed you are too sick to do your job, quit. It's true for Giffords. It's true for Jessie Jackson Jr. And it's true for you. So far you have missed almost 15% of your term. If you're well enough to campaign, you're well enough to work.
