Kirk’s Friend Brings Him Work

Sen. Manchin, Kirk family see signs of improvement.

best friend in the U.S. Senate thinks it is time for Illinois’s junior senator to get back to work at least on a part-time basis, according to a statement released by Kirk’s office.

paid Kirk a visit Saturday, giving him not only cards and good tidings from his colleagues, but work to do.

“I brought him some work to get done, some proposals to look at and some of the political magazines that have all the news in Washington,” Manchin said. “I brought all the love and best wishes of the Senate to Mark and his family, including cards with good wishes from his colleagues.”

Manchin spent Saturday morning with Kirk and his family at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and gave his own prognosis after the visit. “He's getting more irritated at being in the hospital, which means he's definitely getting better,” Manchin said.

An opinion on Kirk’s condition also came from his family, which has been with him on a regular basis since his stroke. “He is talking, making jokes and asking about work,” they said in a statement issued by the Senator’s office.

The family was there when Kirk was visiting with Manchin and is grateful to the well wishes the senator has received from across the state.

"We want to express our deep appreciation and gratitude to Senator Joe Manchin for all he has done and continues to do to be a source of comfort and strength for our family,” they said in the statement. “We know how much his friendship means to Mark. Joe is truly a class act.”

I was shocked that O'Bama did not mention Kirk during his state of the union address. Kirk is a member of the governing body and it certainly seemed appropriate to send him well wishes, so to speak

I'm shocked at how unhappy you seem to be given the encouraging news about Sen Kirk. His condition is improving. Yours isn't so hot so to speak....tasteless.

I agree with Charlie. It was the State of the Union address, not Sick Call Shoutouts. Obama properly expressed his well wishes privately, much as he did to Rep. Gabrielle Goffords when he saw her before making the speech. it is high time people stop carping against him for every little thing. Give it a rest already! We get it

The "rebublican's" are not a hate group. They may have different views on the economy, the role of government, punctuation and capitalization, but they are not a hate group.

Gee, Karl...looks like you've got a little hatred brewing there yourself...try to have a nice day...

to state anything other then concern or best wishes for Kirk under the circumstances is classless beyond comprehension...I'm not a big Kirk fan from the political point of view but I sincerely wish him as healthy and speedy recovery as possible....and to karl, I think you need to examine your post with more attention to the real problems facing our nation these days--and that being "hate" is a four letter word we need to see a lot less of
