Park District Plans Tax Hike

After cutting taxes a year ago, Deerfield Park District will ask more of citizens in 2014.

After cutting taxes for Deerfield residents a year ago, the Deerfield Park District plans to increase the real estate tax levy 2.29 percent for payments due in 2014, according to Park District Executive Director Rick Julison.

Julison estimates a person living in a $500,000 home in Deerfield will pay approximately $50 more than laid out in 2013. There will be a public hearing on the issue at 8 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Jewett Park Community Center.

A primary reason for the increase is making improvements in park facilities to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to Julison. The Park District will also be paying for improvements to playgrounds under its contract with Deerfield Public Schools District 109.
