Roadwork scheduled next year on should be done as soon as possible even if the work must go on 24 hours a day seven days a week, according to the latest Patch poll.
Of the 71 persons who responded to the unscientific survey gauging readers’ opinions between Monday and Wednesday, 64 favor around the clock work while seven would take a slower approach.
For reader David Greenberg, there is little question. He wants the work done as quickly as possible.
“Get it done already,” Greenberg writes. “Unless there's some valid reason why extra shifts can't be used (such as waiting for concrete to dry and set), there's no excuse. Handle it, stop playing and wasting everyone's time, money, and patience with these never-ending road projects, especially those on main arteries.”
Despite the vote, some people express caution. “Have 2 shifts and adjust so excessive noise is done during the day,” Paul writes.
Marshall Hechter seems to remember an earlier promise from the Cook County Highway Department and does not want a repeat.
“Cook County promised seven day a week project work the last go-round,” Hechter said. “Translated, that means two guys working on Saturday and Sunday cleaning up or rearranging the barriers.”
