Shaw Gets GOP Nod for May Seat

Lake Forest attorney selected as Republican candidate to replace Lauren Turelli who withdrew from the race earlier this month.

was named Friday as the Republican candidate in the campaign to succeed .

Shaw replaces Lauren Turelli of Lake Forest on the ballot . He was selected by Republican Party officials within the 58th legislative district according to provisions of state law dealing with candidate withdrawal.

The choice was made by Lake County Republican Chairman Bob Cook along with New Trier Township Committeeman Bill Cadigan and Northfield Township Committeewoman Jill Brickman in part because of Shaw’s efforts building the Republican Party in West Deerfield Township.

“Mark (Shaw) has done a great job reaching out to people and getting them involved in the party,” Cook said. “That’s what representing people is about, reaching out to them and getting them involved.”

When Shaw got the call from Cook Friday night telling him about his selection he had a number of emotions.

“I am thrilled and humbled by the responsibility given to me to carry the Republican campaign message of economic growth and reform against the Democrats heading into the November election,” Shaw said.

Shaw will be running against Democratic candidate . Drury and Shaw are both attorneys. “I look forward to a positive campaign on the issues,” Shaw said.

Cook, Cadigan and Brickman picked Shaw over two other contenders, and Keith Gray of Libertyville. “All three were very good choices,” Cook said. He indicated it was difficult to select among the three.

Check out his crazy rants against liberal journalists, the Patch, and anyone who disagrees with him here:

Also this story where he professes his admiration for Scott Walker's anti-union policies while others such as Dold and Atsaves realize how important it is to preserve a union's right to collectively bargain.

Yup, The liberals are already pulling out their knives! Shaw's incredible organizing skills are one thing they don't want in Springfield. How dare an incredibly intelligent attorney come downstate and challenge the emperor!
Madigan and Company have all but destroyed Illinois by their reckless (and borderline criminal) spending on a mishmash of social programs, paybacks to unions and other parasites, and a host of other frivolousness nonsense. We are among the most corrupt states in the Nation, so far in debt it's beginning to look like we can never meet our financial obligations, and Chicago, the largest city in Illinois is becoming known as the "Murder Capitol of The World. And Mr. Russillo wants to focus on what he considers to be crazy rants????

Mark was right to applaud Gov. Walker. Public employee unions help to elect public officials, then they collectively bargain with those same officials for wages and benefits. Unlike private employers, the officials are giving away the taxpayers' money, not their own. A private employer who gives away too much in negotiations soon goes bankrupt, but that option is not available for Illinois or Wisconsin. For good reasons FDR and many other leaders warned against allowing public employees to collectively bargain.

If any one has any real questions or concerns for Mr. Shaw I know for a fact he will call you if you leave a message with his campaign office. If you go to his office his personal cell phone is on his campaign business cards. If you have a serious inquiry or concern please address this man who is positioned to win and he will respond to you promptly. It is our responsibility to assert our will on him, republican or democrat. He is ultimately our representative and understands that his own political beliefs take a backseat to those of his constituents. Point fingers or make a point. the choice is yours!

Yes, I have been asking for Mr. Shaw and the other GOP candidates to answer this question for weeks. What is your DETAILED plan for returning the state to a balanced budget. So far, the only thing I've seen from anyone is to repeal the tax increases. So the first step in balancing the budget is reducing revenue. How will you replace that revenue? What SPECIFIC spending cuts do you propose? These are the questions voters need answered and these are the questions Mr. Shaw and Mr. Friedman are not answering. They would rather bash the Springfield establishment in the hopes that will get them elected.

Walter,
There are many details that are being sorted out but the general consensus is clear. On the Chicago Tribune online editorial there is great dialogue about Mark and he offers 5 steps towards a detailed budget. I suggest you look at this. If you are sincerely concerned with the detail of the budget there are certainly ways to get involved. The organization is always in need of support by organization contributions and professional diligence. Here is the link: http://elections.chicagotribune.com/editorial/mark-l-shaw/

There is nothing historical about this house. The historical house was torn down in order to buildRead More a modern house which vaguely resembles the home that was owned by Lyman Wilmot. But calling this new construction "an important part of the history of Deerfield" is a travesty.

Mara, So sorry you feel this way. We feel that this really improves the neighborhood. Tried toRead More keep much of old structure, but Igor's rehab and lack of upkeep, made it impossible. couldn't even keep floors, all warped from water and walls full of mold. City did nothing to stop Igor from combining two distinct properties. I am having a champagne lunch Wed. June 19, 11:30 to 1:30. Would love for you to come and see the house. Maybe that will change your mind. Annette Kalcheim

Annette - my first statement was "beautiful house" so I have no qualms with your outcome -Read More however, this is a re-do, re-creation not the original house. But good luck! I am sure you will find a buyer quickly!
