Deerfield 2012 Election Night Results

Deerfield will be home to its Congressman and state senator. Check out our in-depth coverage of the results from the 10th Congressional District, the 29th State Senate and the Illinois 58th House Races.

No member of Congress has ever called Deerfield home.

No state senator has hailed from Deerfield in more than 40 years.

By early January, the Village will be able to claim Rep. Elect Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) and state Sen. Elect Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield).

Victories by Schneider and Morrison were two of the significant outcomes from a night of election returns from the reelection of President Barack Obama to Congressional campaigns, Illinois General Assembly contests and county races.

Here are some of the highlights:

Schneider defeats Dold in a close race for Congress

Brad Schneider ousted incumbent Robert Dold by only 2,434 votes to become the US Congressman from the 10th district.

Morrison Defeats Friedman in IL 29th State Senate Race

Democrat Julie Morrison has won the race against Republican Arie Friedman with nearly 53 percent of the votes.

Drury Wins IL 58th District State House Race

The Democratic candidate won with about a 5,000 vote lead.

Nerheim Defeats Kennedy in Lake County State's Attorney Race

Republican Mike Nerheim narrowly defeated Democrat Chris Kennedy in the race for Lake County State's Attorney.

I think one thing the GOP needs to understand is that they didn't just get beat, they got hammered. The party needs to take a long look at itself and change with the times. This is no longer a country controlled by white conservatives. This is a more multicultural and tolerant electorate. If you want to stick to God, guns, and gays fine. You will continue to lose elections in a big way.
And to my IL GOP friends, I guess it's now obvious to you that complaining about Mike Madigan is a failed strategy. The Dems picked up seats in both the IL House and Senate. So please, in 2 years, find some good candidates with new ideas and talk about those ideas. Nobody wants to hear your pissing and moaning about the other party. The people have spoken, and you have some work to do.

Indeed! Good government is about compormise and working for all the people, not just the ones who voted for you. Let's see if Mitch McConnell figures out that his sole goal of the last four years ruined his chances of improving the GOP's standing in the Senate. Many of the most radical on the right were voted out (West, Mourdock, Akin, Walsh). We have a more female Senate than ever going forward. The Senator from Wisconsin is gay. We will have the chance for a moderate, rather than radically conservative Supreme Court. And Michelle Bachmann is still around to provide comic relief. I doubt "The Donald" will ever figure it out. Maybe the Sheldon Adelsons of the world will. Long live our democracy!!!

I echo Walter's ideas. I REALLY don't want to vote so strongly Democratic. However, I hope my Republican bruthas can start to look at their long-term strategy and provide us with more solid choices that are driven by REALISTIC, unique ideas rather than scare tactics and unorganized, flavor-of-the-month mobs posing as some "movement." For instance, you need to start looking at a better Illinois leader than crazy Judy Baar-Topinka.
I'd be surprised if EVERYBODY didn't agree that they don't like the state of the deficit, the Illinois economic situation/Madigan's garbage and the former direction of Medicare. Now you need to ask your guys what they are realistically going to do about it, rather than supporting people who are playing political games, trying to appeal to the extreme ... and frankly, busting up your party. Please give me a good choice for Illinois governor. It shouldn't be THAT difficult. There are REAL problems here that have nothing to do with abortion or gun control. Get off those issues. Completely off the topic, the Republican side is pretty quiet this morning, and that's understandable. But I'm interested to see who continues a reasonable dialogue. It's always been my theory that there were a whole lot of hired guns typing out here for the last couple months.

Hammered? Are you kidding? Mike Madagan and the Illinois Idiots in Springfield re-drew districts to favor their canadates. Obama's campaign used scare tatics and pitting one group against others to get re-elected. But as I said before, the Chicago Style Politics worked, congrats!
I just pray that Obama comes to the center, like others before him. He didn't do it the first four years, but I'm hoping that Clinton will be in his ear for these next four. Don't worry though, it doesn't matter how he does, it seems you've got built-in excuses. It's never your fault, it’s always someone else’s fault. Keep in mind, there is NO MANDATE with getting 51 or so percent of the vote. There is still roughly half of America that doesn't agree with most of your policies. A leader comes to the center to get things done! Let’s hope he changes for everyone’s good.

Walter - Illinois is in the worst economic run state in the Country and you voted more dems in?
Good dems are hard working and don't need a handout. But liberals fit into 4 categories...1.Those that thought "change" meant what can I get from the gov't to not have to work 2. Those who are jealous of people more successful and want their money 3. Those who can't separate the truly needy from the moochers and feel sorry for them all or 4. Special interests such as overpaid union workers or gay rights activists. Obama is the worst economic president we've had in decades and yet has 50% of the Country voting based on social issues rather than what will make this the great Country we once were Strive to be successful Walter, by the way, which group do you belong to?

The Whiny Loser group.

Good luck! We shall see........but the numbers speak for them selves. 40B in debt and growing. Broke, broke, and more broke.
Just because they win does not mean you are the smart guy......in my mind it means you did not do your homework! The people of IL just gave Madigan Emperor status, the Governor is meaningless, has no more veto power. Digest that, no check, no balance. And please tell us what good Ideas the Dems had?.....they pulled out the oldest and dirtiest tricks in the book. Abortion and Guns. They have no plan....but spend and tax! For the sake of all of us, I wish them the best, but track record says bend over and grab the lube.......
The Q November 7, 2012 at 11:05 pm
the uneducated winner is usually the loser in the long run......
The Q November 7, 2012 at 11:26 pm
And given that people voted straight up party line means they did no homework on their canadates. They voted how they were told.....like Sheep.
World will never change with that mentality.

Dold is the loser...the bastard who refuses to pay his serfs at Rose Pest any overtime while forcing them to work over 40 hrs. every week. How does he do it? Media doesn't care to mention, employees are terrified of being fired and/or sued, Republicans side with Dold because, most-likely, they too screw their employees a little...after all the bilionare needs a private plane hahahahaha. Dold..loser...it feels so good to drive around Northbrook and see Dold's election signs...the signs of a crook who lost.
dold's supporter November 9, 2012 at 01:40 pm
you are so right The Q...Republicans voted like sheep for a fake man, Robert Dold...Anyway, their world WILL CHANGE. And they are not gonna like it. Dold....loserrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

There is nothing historical about this house. The historical house was torn down in order to buildRead More a modern house which vaguely resembles the home that was owned by Lyman Wilmot. But calling this new construction "an important part of the history of Deerfield" is a travesty.

Mara, So sorry you feel this way. We feel that this really improves the neighborhood. Tried toRead More keep much of old structure, but Igor's rehab and lack of upkeep, made it impossible. couldn't even keep floors, all warped from water and walls full of mold. City did nothing to stop Igor from combining two distinct properties. I am having a champagne lunch Wed. June 19, 11:30 to 1:30. Would love for you to come and see the house. Maybe that will change your mind. Annette Kalcheim
Mara Meyer June 15, 2013 at 09:33 pm
Annette - my first statement was "beautiful house" so I have no qualms with your outcome -Read More however, this is a re-do, re-creation not the original house. But good luck! I am sure you will find a buyer quickly!
