Before giving Deerbrook its approval, the Board got the answers it was seeking from the developers of a proposed 240-unit apartment project at 1525 Lake Cook Road. It then gave its approval, on a 4-1 vote, to let the developers finalize their proposal with the Plan Commission.

When developer AMLI Company made its initial presentation April 15, the Trustees had concerns about traffic flow and a pedestrian crossing. .

“The pedestrian crossing is a great idea for the community, our residents and the neighborhood,” Ross said. The crossing will be created across Lake Cook Road at Wilmot Road.

The Board was also satisfied this time with traffic flow in and out of the property as well as around it. Trustee William Seiden, who cast the lone no vote, was not yet convinced there were sufficient elevators.

“I want to be a yes vote,” Seiden said. He will get that chance when the final detailed plans are presented. He intends to take a closer look at other AMLI projects.

After voting on Deerbrook and the apartments, the Board honored outgoing Trustee Mary Oppenheim for her four years of service.

After a brief adjournment, Robert Nalder took his oath of office as the newest Trustee. He was elected April 9. Mayor Harriet Rosenthal and Trustee Barbara Struthers were also sworn in after their reelection in April.

Patch will have a more detailed story on the apartment project and a photo gallery of the swearing in ceremonies later this week.
