Village, Earthworks Plant Arbor Day Tree at DHS

Deerfield celebrates Arbor Day with a tree planting at Deerfield High School.

Deerfield High School principal Audris Griffith is fond of praising not just the academic prowess of the students but the way they are becoming part of the greater community.

That commitment to service was on display Friday when the Deerfield officials planted a tree for Arbor Day at the entrance to the high school with the assistance of Earthworks, a student organization committed to a better environment.

“We go around the school and recycle,” club member Alex Behn said. “We have also adopted a highway and clean up a beach.”

The Village Board of Trustees issued a special proclamation recognizing Arbor Day at its April 15 meeting. The tree was provided by the Village.
