Village Gives Seta Salon Final Approval

Beauty shop will follow Bobby's Deerfield as new tenant of downtown shopping center.

Seta Salon’s move to downtown Deerfield from the Deerbrook Mall was accelerated Monday when the Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a special use permit at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting.

After a request from owners Chuck and Seta Babikian to give the permit two weeks earlier than normal, the Board granted the application after being satisfied parking requirements imposed on the property owner would come to pass.

The Babikians hope to have all work done on their new establishment and open for business at 655 Deerfield Road by the winter holidays.

The Village’s major concern with the project is sufficient parking at the shopping center as empty spaces fill. The resolution was to insert a valet parking requirement on the owner of the property that will house Bobby’s Deerfield this month and Seta’s Salon two months later.

“We expect the place to be bursting at the seams,” Mayor Harriet Rosenthal said. “With Seta’s and Bobby’s coming in we don’t want people to leave because they can’t find a place to park.”

Once a more fully occupied shopping center requires valet parking, it will be incumbent on the owners to institute the amenity. If that does not happen, the Village has the right to force the issue.

“To the extent we have to talk to them about it we’ll get involved,” Village Manager Kent Street said referring to implementation of Valet Parking.
