Village Honors Hockey Team with New Entrance Signs

Plaques into Deerfield recognize high school team as state champs.

Deerfield’s got something new to brag about.

The village is now home to a state championship winning hockey team and officials want to make sure everybody knows about it.

In April, the village board surprised the players with a plaque that read “Home of the 2010-2011 Deerfield High School Varsity White Division State Champion Hockey Team.”

While the players got to keep that sign, others have now been placed at some of the village’s entrances.

“It’s very exciting to have this team with us,” Mayor Harriet Rosenthal enthusiastically remarked at the board meeting. “I happen to have a grandson on this hockey team that won state in their division.”

“This year we had a very good end of the season,” senior Jacob Serck said after receiving the plaque. Back in March the Warriors beat Loyola 6-2 in the championship game to nab the Blackhawk Cup (White Divison) State Title.

“I know what you guys went through,” village trustee and hockey enthusiast mentioned to the players during a congratulations ceremony afterwards. “You earned every bit of that.”
