Village Honors Life Saving Officers

Four police officers who pulled a man from his sinking automobile get department's highest award.

A rare Special Commendation Award was given to four members of the at Monday’s Village Board meeting for Jan. 1.

Sgt. Iain McCowan, Sgt. Bill Annen, Officer Steve Pettorelli and Officer Andy Kupsak were honored for their heroic effort after being called to 540 Lake Cook Road. Three citizens who witnessed the car go into the pond called 911 to alert the police.

“I saw the pictures and there is no doubt in my mind the guy would have died (if it had not been for the officers),” Police Chief John Sliozis said as he presented the awards. “This is the highest honor our department gives out and we don’t give it out very often.”
