Whole Foods Seeks Expanded Liquor License

Food store hopes to sell a limited amount of spirits. Village Board takes action on electric supplier, approves Day Care Center at Walgreens.

Whole Foods Market asked the Village Board of Trustees to expand its liquor license to include a limited amount of spirits along with its existing stock of wine and beer at Monday’s Board meeting.

“These will be from organic local suppliers,” Whole Foods Deerfield Team Leader Dan Gordon said. “This is less than one percent of our business,” he added referring to the new spirits and existing stocks of wine and beer.

The new item will be added to the existing space Whole Foods currently devotes to wine and beer. There would be no additional shelves for the products.

In other business, Police Chief John Sliozis gave a report of his department’s efforts over the last year including the fact crime has dropped slightly in the Village.

The Board gave a first approval to a special use allowing state Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) to occupy ground floor space for her District office at 700 Osterman Avenue, gave final approval to a day care center near the Walgreens corporate campus and extended its contract with MC Square for electrical power.

Patch will have more detailed stories about these issues later in the week.
