Billy Corgan Buys Nearby Coach House

Smashing Pumpkins front singer expands lakefront compound same week as Michael Jordan gets ready to auction his mansion.

This is a time for celebrity real estate in Highland Park.

While Michael Jordan was making plans to auction his 56,000 square foot mansion in north Highland Park, Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan was buying more property in the City.

Corgan, who lives in a 9,606 square foot Normandy chateau-style mansion on the shores of Lake Michigan, recently bought the 4,646 square foot coach house adjacent to his existing Highland Park home, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.

Corgan purchased his original seven-bedroom Highland Park home on more than six acres with beach frontage in 2003 for $6.8 million, according to the Tribune article. Just recently he added the coach house on 1.03 acres for $1.25 million.

Corgan also owns Madame Zuzu’s Tea House on Roger Williams Avenue in Highland Park and occasionally entertains friends there in a casual manner.
