Today marks the 12th day of Christmas for all the Christians all over the world. I love Christmas in the United States. In Poland the decoration for Christmas was only indoors Christmas tree. My first Christmas in the United States was like Alice in Wonderland experience. The Christmas carols on the radio, millions of outdoor lights, Christmas spirit in stores were bringing tears to my eyes. I was raised with no religion, but most of my friends we Catholics. I remember the paintings of Virgin Mary in their houses, sometimes in every single room, a different version of her image. I was always amazed of her incredible unbelievable to describe beauty. Yesterday I reached to my library and found the book Mary Images of the Virgin in Art. On the Internet I found my favorite image of Virgin Mary – picture of Black Madonna, which is not included in the book but it is very beautiful. My favorite picture in the book is painting by Yves Michel, Eternal Flowers, which we found on the Internet in a different version. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

On Saturday I went to Barnes and Noble in Deerfield where Holly Cross School held the fund raiser. That was unbelievable experience. The place was packed with parents and children, buying piles of books. There was a dad with approximately 6-7 months old baby dressed as Santa. They were both wrapping the books as gifts. Upstairs there was a band playing Christmas carols, and I said to myself – with the parents like that this country has future.

I love living in Deerfield. We have a lot of people who devote their life free of charge to the future of this city. I know the Board of Trustees with the leading lady Mayor Rosenthal. Ever since I remember the village board she was serving there, first as the trustee, and now as a mayor. I see her not only at the board meetings but also running all over the city from a store to a store, from a restaurant to a restaurant supporting our small businesses, and helping our local and state taxes. I know also in person one of Deerfield Park District commissioners Rick Patinkin. He never has a minute for himself, but he will never miss even a single board meeting. Because of him and all the other board members Deerfield children and teens will always have safe places to go after school, and Deerfield will always be a green heaven. We have 22 parks and backgrounds in our village.

I want to thank all the people who support our community and I want to wish all Deerfield residents happy holiday season and prosperous New Year.

May God bless us and America!
