CHARLIE AND THE FIREFIGHTER

A touching story of an one-eyed Charlie :)

Lucy and her dog Charlie were Renu friends ever since Lucy adopted him. He was then one year old puppy. He enjoyed walking with his “mama” and his most favorite treats were carrots and hard boiled eggs. When Lucy adopted Charlie she was full of energy elderly lady. Recently she started experiencing some health problems and her energy went down. She worried about her health but even more about the future of Charlie, if “for God’s sake” she gets very sick and will not be able to take care of him. Her daughter could not have pets in her house, so Lucy started looking for a new home for her beloved dog. Her dream for Charlie was house full of children and a back yard.

Few days ago Charlie insisted on walking to Deerfield shopping mall and Lucy took him there. They both walked into the man wearing Deerfield firefighter uniform. He asked for permission to pet the dog. That made Charlie ecstatic. He mentioned that he just put his sick 12 years old dog to sleep, and he misses his dog very much.

“Do you have children? “ – Lucy asked. He answered that he has three boys. “Do you have a house and a back yard?”  “Yes,” - answered the man with surprise in his voice. “You must be an answer to my prayers,”- Lucy said. And then she told him the story about her searching for a new home for the little one-eyed boy. The firefighter took a picture of Charlie, asked for Lucy’s phone number and promised to get back to her if the boys and their mother accept a new resident in their house.

It didn’t take long for Lucy’s phone to ring. “Pack Charlie, – said the firefighter, - My boys cannot wait to have him in our house.” The first think Lucy put in a travel bag for Charlie were several winter hats, favorite part of Charlie’s wardrobe. Next day Lucy saw the pictures of three beautiful boys and Charlie. Everybody looked very happy. He gets a lot of hugs and kisses in his new home and unlimited amount of carrots.

Who said that firefighters are not giants? They might not look like ones, but they defiantly have giant hearts. Deerfield firefighter is a living proof of it!

May Charlie and his new family have many many years of love and happiness!

P.S. Charlie is 8 years old now and his mom first time in her life takes care just of herself.
