Coyotes on Attack!!!

Be aware of coyotes!

There have been a lot of attacks in Northbrook, Highland Park, and Deerfield. Attacks happened after dark or before sunrise. There are no safe areas for the dogs in those suburbs, even if you do not live by the woods. Do not leave your dogs unattended outside even during the day. Your underground fence protects your dogs only from going on the streets, it does not stop wild animals from entering your yard.

You must also know that coyotes can jump over 6 feet tall fence. So, your dogs shouldn’t be unattended even in the yard.

Coyotes are not vicious, they are just hungry! For you your dog is a precious thing, for them it’s a meal. Also, do not walk your dogs after dark. I was followed by 2 coyotes even when I had a big dog. What scared them was my scream which brought 4 or 5 Deerfield police cars within a minute. It happened to me 4 years ago, and at first I thought that I was followed by foxes. People who witnessed that situation told me that those animals were coyotes.

My expert advice is to carry a stick when you walk your dog and scream when you notice a coyote. Owners of very small dogs should be also afraid of hawks.

Please, do not keep your dogs unleashed on the front yard, because sooner or later they will get killed by the car. A lot of us would not want to be that killer.

Enjoy the holidays! Keep your pets and children safe and happy.
