Cranberries Are Good Not Only for Turkey Dressing

Information about UTIs and how cranberry juice can help to cure it.

Current data estimates that over 450,000 women in the United States suffer from urinary-tract infections (UTIs). I have friends who have this problem and I was always suggesting my great grandma’s remedy- sugar free cranberry juice. That worked for my friends as a cure and preventive medicine. I was happy to discover that medical field also prices cranberries and cranberry juice for solving that problem. I found an article in “Alternative Medicine” for September-October written by George L. Redmon PHD, ND “Combat UTIs Naturally”. Doctor Redmon supports my great grandma’s idea that juice is supposed to be sugar free, since sugar will only serve as a breeding ground for bacteria to flourish. He also suggests using as a preventing measure herbs like dandelion, uva ursi; supplements like golden seal, garlic, parsley, rose hips, blueberries, marshmallow, and manzanita.

Doctor Redmon urges people not to ignore UTI symptoms since they could lead to severe kidney infection. I use cranberry juice from Whole Foods. It is called “Just cranberry”. I use it mainly as the source of anti-oxidants. Doctor Redmon says that cranberry is only second as an anti-oxidant after blueberries.

I do love blueberries and I buy them fresh during the season. Off the season I eat frozen wild blueberries. I mix them with the Greek yogurt and organic honey. When I first came to the USA I was working as a counselor at the camp for physically and mentally challenged children and adults located at the far north part of Minnesota. The woods over there were the kingdom of wild raspberries and blueberries. And I believe that even if the woods are sometimes sprayed for mosquitos and insects the wild blueberries are as organic as it is possible.

I’ll highly recommend that you read September-October issue “Alternative Medicine” especially when you are a mother of a baby. There is a great article on how superior the goat milk formula is to cow milk. I take my dogs to holistic vets and I give my dogs goat milk to drink, since people and animals barely ever have stomach sensitivity to goat milk.

Have a happy reading and a healthy life!
