The Ancient Cure for Modern-Day Stress!

Since ancient times, Indian healers have believed that our health and emotions are governed by the seven invisible energy centers in the body called chakras. And modern-day healers agree: “clearing your chakras is like detoxing – it helps you focus better and gives you a lot more energy,” says Doreen Virtue, Ph.D., author of Chakra Clearing. “It also helps to clarify your intuition, which can help make problem-solving easier” Plus it’s simple and fun to do.

1.Invite serenity by balancing your root chakra!

Your root chakra, located near your tailbone, helps you feel grounded, serene, and financially secure.

Boost it by: walking barefoot outdoors for 10 minutes a day! This also allows antioxidant-rich electrons in the earth to work their way into your body, scientists say. The result: reduced inflammation, renewed energy, better sleep.

Can’t head outdoors? Snack on carrots or enjoy a baked potato! This ground-centered chakra is nourished by root vegetables!

2. Make any diet easier by balancing your sacral chakra!

Centered about two inches below your belly button, “this chakra is about expressing your creative impulses,” says Virtue. “When it’s blocked, you may overheat.”

Boost it by: knitting, drawing or doing any other creative activity! Brain scan studies show that creating art prompts the release of tension relieving hormones.

Prefer doing something physical? Try Hula-hooping or belly dancing, or turn on your favorite music and move; it exercises the pelvic area governed by this chakra.

 3. Up your confidence by balancing your solar plexus chakra!

This chakra, located above the navel, is where your personal power and self-respect radiate from, so when it’s blocked, it affects your self-esteem. “You may feel powerless.”

Boost it by: S-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g! Yoga and pilates strengthen your abs-the so called “core” muscles – and make you feel stronger as a person, too.

No time to exercise? Watch an inspiring movie with a strong heroine, such as The Hunger Games or Brave, to strengthen your sense of empowerment.

 4. Enjoy more love by balancing your heart chakra!

This central chakra governs your relationships with others – and your ability to love yourself.

Boost it by: taking a detoxifying sea salt bath! To do: add 1 cup to a full tub of very warm water and soak, keeping your chest and heart under water. Add a little rose essential oil for extra love power.

Another option: Lie down for 10 minutes with a piece of rose quartz over your heart (Is available at Renu Day Spa).

 6. Make communicating easier by balancing your throat chakra!

When this energy center is blocked, you may have difficulty speaking your mind.

Boost it by: Singing! Belting out your favorite tune releases energy from your throat chakra and stimulates both hemispheres of the brain – which improves your ability to think clearly and speak with ease.

What also works: Wearing a turquoise or blue topaz necklace! Gem therapists say blue gems energize the chakra to help you tap into your true desires and express your needs more easily.

 7. Sharper your thinking by balancing your third eye chakra!

When energy flows freely thought this forehead-based area of wisdom and intuition, you often “know” things before they happen!

Boost it by: Sipping ginger tea! The brew stimulates your third eye without any of the jittery side effects of caffeine. Try Chanakara Blue Ginger Herbal tea.

What also works: Sleeping under a deep blue bedspread. Dark blues like indigo are calming and mystical – and help open the third eye!

 8. Boost your joy by balancing your crown chakra!

This uppermost chakra connects you to your spiritual self, making you feel inspired every day!

Boost it by: praying or meditating outdoors. Connecting with nature opens your crown chakra- while also, according to scientific studies, melting stress and strengthening your immune response.

Even easier: Going out on a warm summer night to stargaze. “It immediately gives you a sense of connection to the vastness of the universe,” says Virtue.
