109 Moves Kipling, Walden Students to Air Conditioning

Students without air conditioning moved to facilities with complete cooling systems.

Students in Deerfield Public Schools District 109 schools without available air conditioning were moved to facilities today where they will have properly cooled learning conditions, according to an email from Superintendent Michael Lubelfeld.

Students who were moved for the remainder of the day to other buildings will be returned to their own schools at the end of the day for pickup. This is being done for safety reasons, according to the email.

No specific decision has been made about school Wednesday but the District is looking at a number of possibilities to maintain a safe learning environment.

“It appears that temperatures may be cooler tomorrow, but we are preparing for multiple scenarios to ensure that staff and students are safe, comfortable and productive,” Lubelfeld said in the email. “We will keep the community informed about any changes in our regular schedule.”

Kindergartners at Kipling walked to the District office less than a block away while first and second graders were bused to South Park Elementary School. Shepard Middle School welcomed Kipling’s third and fourth grade students while fifth graders remained in air conditioned rooms at Kipling.

At Walden, first and second grade students were taken to Wilmot Elementary School while Caruso Middle School is the temporary home for Walden’s third and fourth graders. Kindergarteners and fifth grade students at Walden are sing air conditioned rooms at Walden.

“Kipling and Walden principals will communicate about your child’s classroom’s specific experiences,” Lubelfeld said in the email. “We are working to provide as ‘normal’ and routine an educational experience as possible.”

This is the last year Walden and Kipling will be without air conditioning. They are scheduled to have a complete cooling system installed before the start of the next term.
