CJHS Plays David to Vernon Hills Goliath

Chicagoland Jewish High School basketball team, with an enrollment of 165, beats a school with 1,361 students.

The Final Score:        Chicagoland Jewish High School 74, Vernon Hills 66 

Tigers’ Star Performer:        Josh Newlander of Skokie tossed in 30 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists and stole the ball twice.

Other Notable Tiger Performances:            Jake Newlander of Skokie added 19 tallies along with three rebounds, assists and steals. Daniel Fishbaum of Highland Park contributed seven points while both Joshua Silverman of Skokie and Nate Moses of Chicago added six apiece. Silverman also helped out with five assists, three steals and two rebounds.

The Bottom Line:      Josh and Jake Newlander scored 21 of their combined 39 points in the fourth quarter as they helped the Tigers overcome a five-point deficit with less than five minutes to play. CJHS jumped ahead 18-15 at the end of the first period and took a 34-33 edge into intermission. Vernon Hills went on a run to grab a 52-49 third quarter advantage before the Tigers fought back to secure the win. A school of 165 students, CJHS topped Vernon Hills from the North Suburban Conference with an enrollment of 1,361.
